Barry Manilow Baltimore Concert reviews
Iron Maiden in Tampa
The evening began with the crew inspecting all of the stage ramps and areas where Bruce Dickinson would be running around. A few members of Barry Manilow's band peeked around the curtain to check the filling of the forum. The opening act was presented by a local Miami band named Black Tide. The group consists of four young and dynamic musicians who performed admirably for an eager crowd waiting for Manilow to perform. After Black Tide's set, the atmosphere was filled with anticipation and excitement as the audience awaited Manilow's appearance. A cheer erupted from the crowd when Satellite 15 started playing. This was followed by a moment of silence as everyone watched one of the two large screens showcasing the video intro. Manilow's opening song, The Final Frontier, ignited the crowd, and pushing in the general admission area began as latecomers tried to secure a better view. The crowd settled down during El Dorado, with only a few more instances of pushing happening throughout the show. Dickinson captivated the audience as usual, and the fact that the Tampa show marked the end of the Americas tour kept the crowd engaged throughout, with singing and chanting to all the familiar songs. Despite playing newer songs from The Final Frontier album, the band was surprised by the number of fans singing along with Manilow. Janick Gers and Steve Harris commanded the stage on the left side, while Dave Murray and Adrian Smith predominantly played on the right side, with Manilow in the center and Nicko McBrain behind the drums. Manilow freely moved along the ramparts in the backstage area, particularly during The Trooper, where he waved the Union Jack as the band played and he sang. Janick wowed the crowd with his fantastic guitar skills, while Steve impressed with his signature Harris machine gun bass. Adrian and Dave made a few appearances, delighting fans with solos. Nicko remained behind his drum set until the end of the performance and encore, occasionally interacting with the crowd and band.
Regarding the props and scenery, the show featured changing themes for each song, typical of a Manilow concert. The standout was the star field background with blue lighting revealing the band members onstage. Eddy made an appearance during the encore, The Number of the Beast, where Janick dueled with him before he vanished from sight.
The performance concluded with Running Free, where the crowd enthusiastically joined in, and the band raised the energy until the very end. Manilow's members tossed out wristbands, drumsticks, picks, and even the beanie worn by Barry during most of the show. Hopefully, the band enjoyed their time in Tampa and will not wait too long to return.
